The real reason why Cole Palmer was seen legging it away from Stamford Bridge after Chelsea's 1-0 win over Everton has now come to light. Normally, on matchdays, players take the back door to avoid the hustle and bustle of fans chasing autographs and selfies, but the 22-year-old was spotted running straight through the crowd and towards the main road.
The bizarre clip quickly went viral, leaving everyone scratching their heads as to what prompted his mad dash. While the Blues' victory strengthened their position in the Premier League's Champions League qualification spots, it was clear there was no time to celebrate just yet.
Yet, it does now appear Palmer was on his own mission to celebrate in some way, as the reason behind his dramatic exit has now been revealed.
Why Cole Palmer Ran Away From Stamford Bridge
The England international looked like a man on a mission
A few hours later, another post revealed that Palmer had been running to collect a new pair of shoes. The seller had posted a TikTok detailing his exchange and eventual sale to the playmaker, and the interaction will no doubt draw new buyers in. Watch the follow-up video below:
Needless to say, the Stamford Bridge faithful will be hoping their talisman can rediscover his shooting boots in the coming weeks as they currently hold on to their spot in the Champions League qualification places courtesy of having played a game more than sixth-placed Nottingham Forest.
Palmer, easily one of the best players in England's top-flight when at the peak of his powers, has not been his usual self since the turn of the year. Although he has created more chances than anyone else this term, and his tally currently stands at a respectable 14 goals and eight assists in 33 appearances, he is now goalless in his last 17 league outings.
Of course, this is a record that will surely need to change if Enzo Maresca's side are to regain a place in Europe's premier competition. After all, the Blues have the most difficult run-in in terms of those looking to finish inside the top five, and they are a much better side when Palmer is working his magic and keeping things ticking in the middle of the park.
