Nigerian singer, Davido has shared a bold chapter from his early days when he ran away from home to pursue music.
Living alone with his father in a 16-bedroom mansion, Davido secretly built a studio inside the house. While his siblings were abroad and his mother had passed, he spent most of his time making music and smoking, all under his dad's nose.
Feeling the pressure of hiding his passion, he ran off to London, staying with a producer friend for six months. Back home in Nigeria, his family launched a search that involved immigration officers and the army.
When Davido finally returned to Nigeria, he wasn't planning to go home. He landed at the airport with the intention to go to a friend's place - but the moment he stepped out, an army officer walked up to him and escorted him outside. Waiting there were uniformed me and his father.
Instead of being angry, his dad hugged him. "I thought I'd be scolded," Davido said, "but he was just happy to see me." That moment gave Davido the courage to tell his dad the truth: he didn't want school - he just wanted to do music and make it.
