Man Utd Consider Shock Move for 'Exceptional' Premier League Star

Manchester United are among several Premier League and European clubs monitoring Manchester City midfielder James McAtee ahead of the summer transfer window, The Telegraph journalist James Ducker has revealed.

The Red Devils, alongside Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, AC Milanmc and Bayer Leverkusen, are believed to be admirers of the 22-year-old, who faces an uncertain future at the Etihad Stadium.

McAtee is expected to leave Man City at the end of the season after struggling for regular minutes under Pep Guardiola and is unlikely to renew his expiring contract, which runs until June 2026.

According to Ducker, Forest and Leverkusen have the strongest interest in McAtee at the moment, having identified the 22-year-old as a potential replacement for Morgan Gibbs-White and Florian Wirtz, respectively.

Man United, meanwhile, have a connection with McAtee through their technical director Jason Wilcox, who worked with the midfielder at Man City for several seasons.

McAtee, praised as 'exceptional', was targeted by Leverkusen in January, but City rejected the reigning Bundesliga champions' loan bid, which included a £25m buy option.

The England U21 international has made 25 appearances for Man City this season, scoring seven goals in almost 900 minutes of action.
