A Nigerian man has taken to social media to express his shock after his mother's ₦4,000 tithe was returned at church, with officials insisting that the minimum acceptable amount is ₦10,000.
Sharing the incident on X (formerly Twitter), the man revealed that he had accompanied his mother to church when the surprising event occurred.
According to him, after his mother offered ₦4,000 as tithe, it was handed back to her with instructions to increase it to at least ₦10,000.
His post read: "My mum gave ₦4k for tithe yesterday during morning mass. They returned it to her and told her it was too small, that she should give ₦10k and above. Lmao, I didn't even say a word. I just de laugh one side."
The post quickly gained traction online, sparking mixed reactions as social media users flooded the comment section to share their opinions on the church's stance.

@kellyoxty: "So, did they basically tell her to give more than 10% as tithe, or did they not believe that 4k was her 10%?"
@stilcoolkat: "Why do Nigerians like defending their oppressors? A Baptist church pastor called my parents out on a Sunday service for poor tithing. Mind you , this was more than 15yrs ago. I have not gone past the trauma yet. Actually, that was how I stop attending churches."
