President Bola Tinubu's decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State was harshly criticized by Professor David Aworawo, a professor of International Relations and Strategic Studies at the University of Lagos, in an interview with Arise News. He maintained that the crisis could have been resolved more successfully with a more diplomatic approach that involved Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and other political players.

Rivers People Are Saying He Has Brought a Calabar Man as Ruler, We'll Show Him In 2027-David Aworawo

"The President could have easily resolved this issue by calling his minister, Wike, and instructing him to call these 27 lawmakers. "Rivers must push forward," Aworawo remarked. "We discuss Tinubu's, Fubara's, and Wike's interest in 2027 in all of these matters. No one discussed the Rivers people's interest.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and all state lawmakers were suspended for six months following President Tinubu's declaration of emergency rule. Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas was named as the acting administrator. However, this action has caused a great deal of controversy, with many people doubting the federal government's strategy and the democratic ramifications.

Professor Aworawo proposed that instead of using emergency measures, other options might have been sought to preserve state stability. Perhaps Wike could call his minister for special duties in addition to the 27 lawmakers. They could also call Onyediri, who is close to Fubara, and warn him that if he doesn't stick to his hardline stance, he could lose everything. There won't be any bombings or sabotage if that occurs. It is the simplest and most efficient way to deal with this issue. Stability will arrive in Rivers in less than two weeks.

Aworawo also cautioned that President Tinubu might experience political setbacks as a result of the emergency rule before the 2027 elections. "Anyway, even from the perspective of President Tinubu's 2027 election. Even what he has done has backfired. The people of Rivers would adore him if he followed my advice. They now claim that he has appointed a Calabar man to lead them, and they plan to introduce him at the upcoming election. If the sentiments are strong and nothing changes, the president will realize how ineffective this action is.

Aworawo also questioned the legitimacy of the emergency rule declaration and the process of securing legislative approval. He expressed doubt about the decision-making process's transparency by asking, "Where on earth do you use voice votes to get two-thirds, not even in Antigua?"
