In a scathing critique, according to ARISE TV, Leloonu Nwibubasa, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called into question the integrity and honesty of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike. During an interview with Arise News Television on Sunday, Nwibubasa accused Wike of failing to uphold his commitments, particularly regarding his stance on suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Nwibubasa recalled that Wike had previously vowed not to interfere with Fubara's administration and had pledged loyalty to the PDP. However, he believes that Wike has since reneged on these promises, which he deems a substantial breach of trust.
Reflecting on the current political climate in Rivers State, Nwibubasa stated, "The only loss Nyesom Wike might incur from the President's declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State is that he won't be able to control the state's political activities." He suggested that Wike would have preferred a situation where Governor Fubara faced impeachment, which would have allowed him to maintain influence over the governance of the state.
Nwibubasa did not mince words when discussing Wike's character, claiming, "The likes of Nyesom Wike would rather prefer that Rivers State is thrown under the bus and everything is destroyed than for his own ego to be bruised." He characterized Wike's behavior as driven by an "unexplainable" level of greed and suggested that it reflects poorly on the political landscape of Rivers State.
He elaborated further, saying, "The only thing I feel he may have lost is that he has lost control of Rivers State because whether he likes it or not, the Vice Admiral is the one in charge. I don't see him coming to tell the man what to do."
As the political situation in Rivers State continues to evolve, Nwibubasa's comments highlight the growing tensions and divisions within the PDP, particularly in light of the recent state of emergency declaration. The implications of these developments are significant, not only for the party but also for the governance and stability of Rivers State as a whole.
With the political future uncertain, the ongoing discourse surrounding Wike's leadership and his relationship with both the PDP and the state government will likely remain a focal point for party members and constituents alike.
