The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, arrived in Calabar on Saturday to receive an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Law from the University of Calabar (UNICAL).
The prestigious award was conferred on him during the institution's 36th convocation ceremony in recognition of his outstanding contributions to public service, legal development, and national leadership.
Wike was warmly received by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, university officials, Cross River State government representatives, and a crowd of enthusiastic supporters.
The convocation drew prominent figures from across the country, including traditional rulers, lawmakers, academics, and students.
In her citation, Prof. Obi described Wike as "a dogged and visionary leader whose service in both the legal profession and governance has positively impacted Nigeria." She highlighted his achievements as a two-term Governor of Rivers State and his current role as FCT Minister.
In his acceptance speech, Wike expressed gratitude to UNICAL for the honour and dedicated the award to Nigerians committed to justice and nation-building. He also emphasized the role of education and strong institutions in securing Nigeria's future.
