Lady accuses inDrive driver of assault over payment dispute; he responds

A Nigerian lady has taken to social media to accuse an inDrive driver of assaulting her over a payment dispute, sharing evidence of the incident online.

The driver, however, has denied the allegations, presenting his own side of the story.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the lady recounted her experience, explaining that she had booked an inDrive ride from her home to a location called Midas. Unbeknownst to her, the destination had two branches, and the driver initially took her to the wrong one, which was not far from the correct location.

According to her, the agreed fare for the trip was ₦6,500, but she ended up paying ₦8,000.

However, she claimed that the driver demanded more money and, when she refused, he assaulted her.

She wrote:

"I took an inDrive this afternoon from my house to Midas. Apparently, Midas has two locations, so he took me to the second one, which wasn't far from the main location. The original ride was ₦6,500, and I paid him ₦8,000, yet he assaulted me."

"He wanted more money, and I told him it wouldn't be up to ₦10,000 even if I had booked it from my house. I walked away, and he got down, yanked my bag, broke the strap, and whipped me with it. He would have beaten me if some men hadn't intervened to hold him back."

"Then, as he was finally leaving, he said he knew my house and that I hadn't seen the last of him."

She also shared a payment receipt alongside photos of the driver, writing:

"Payment receipt, yet he was whipping me like I stole from him. Bastard. Look at his face-he looks like an abomination. I messed up by not paying attention before I accepted."

As the post gained traction, the accused driver responded, refuting the claims and providing his own account of the incident.

He wrote:

"So I am the driver you're referring to. It's unfortunate that you're playing the victim while telling a different story. I see people believing you without verifying the facts, but I'm not surprised-that's what you ladies do."

"She didn't mention that I took her to two other places, which took more time than the original trip. She yanked her sunglasses from me, hit me with her bag, and even slapped me. If I truly assaulted her, I would have been held by now."

The post has sparked mixed reactions online, with many users sharing their thoughts in the comment section.

See some reactions below:

@zizibutterfly: "OMG, I'm so sorry, Sewa. What a dweeb of a man @inDrive, your entire company seems to be a perfect mix of incompetence and lack of accountability. Every day, there's a new complaint about your drivers, but you don't appear to take any responsibility or make any effort to improve?"

@Iamwhykayy: "INDRIVE DO SOMETHING! Must your drivers threaten and beat people every day? Are you not bothered about your reputation? @inDrive Forget Ads, we see what is happening!"

@AyobamiAje29818: "The ride was 6,500 and you paid 8k? Why? Is it that you were generous or there something you are not telling us?"

@belloayodele6: "Everyone is just blaming the guy because she came here first but we should listen from the guy too and try then judge. I have a personal experience as the driver, someone order, got to her pick-up and then start the ride on approaching gbagada she said, this is not where am."

@terhemen__: "Omo i just know i can never i can never use this app that's how that other driver was stalking that babe."

@banktexdaviper: "I no blive you.... Women can't be trusted I have witnessed sumtin like this many times but wen we take proper steps to ask pple that were at the scene it was a different story."
