According to a recent video on Symfoni TV, El-Rufai has strongly condemned what they describe as an unconstitutional attempt to tamper with the mandate of elected officials. Citing the Supreme Court's ruling, He insisted that Section 305 of the Nigerian Constitution does not provide the authority to remove an elected official outside due process.
Speaking on the matter, He firmly stated that any attempt to bypass the legal process in removing an official is a direct violation of Nigeria's democratic principles.
"You cannot, you cannot tamper with the mandate of the people under Section 305 of the Constitution. The Supreme Court has spoken and is very, very clear," He declared.
Reiterating the finality of the Supreme Court's decision, He emphasized that no person or authority has the power to override the court's ruling on the matter.
He went further to criticize the president's actions, describing them as a dangerous overreach of power.
"what the president has done is violently unconstitutional and unlawful," He stated, making it clear that such actions undermine the rule of law.
According to the El-Rufai, any attempt to remove an elected official without following due process is not just unlawful but an outright assault on the country's democratic foundation.
He urged the National Assembly to rise to the occasion and take a stand against what they perceive as executive overreach.
"And our hope, our hope is that the National Assembly will for once today, this National Assembly that everyone accuses of being robust, will at least for once stand with the people of Nigeria," they said.
The speech concluded with a strong call to action, urging lawmakers to defend democracy and uphold the Constitution. The remarks were met with applause from the audience, signaling broad support for the position taken.
