Why I am happy about Tinubu's Emergency rule in Rivers State - Sowore

The 2023 Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has expressed his approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, suggesting it could drive Nigerians to demand significant change.

Sowore made this remark during an interview on Channels Television, monitored by Newsmen on Thursday, following President Tinubu's announcement of a state of emergency in Rivers State earlier in the week.

Commenting on the development, Sowore stated that the political turmoil in the state might encourage Nigerians to rise against poor leadership and governance.

He also noted that his concern is not with the individuals involved but with the potential for the situation to spark broader societal action.

Sowore further expressed optimism that the unfolding events would compel citizens to take a stand against systemic injustices and demand accountability from leadership, emphasizing the need for justice rather than passive acceptance.

"I am happy because maybe this is going to force Nigerians across the country to wake up. They have been too complicit, domicile as a result of cowardice.

"It will force Nigerian to complete the 30 days challenge and move on to the stage where is will be complete revolt. That is not me saying I love anarchy but love Justice," he stated.

It can be recalled that on Tuesday, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, which included the suspension of all elected officials in the state.

On Wednesday, Tinubu appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.) as the sole administrator of Rivers State to manage the state's affairs during the emergency period.
