God Forbid, Bringing an Akwa Ibom Man to Rule Us Will Not Work , Don't Touch Me, It Won't Work- Ijaw Women

The appointment of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas as the sole administrator of Rivers State has sparked strong opposition from the Ijaw community. Led by Princess Comrade Mrs. Rosemary John-Oduone, the Ijaw Women condemned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's decision, questioning the legitimacy of an Akwa Ibom native governing Rivers State.

In a passionate speech, Mrs. John-Oduone challenged former Governor Nyesom Wike's political origins, stating, "Who made Wike? And I ask again, who made him? Bringing an Akwa-Ibom man to come and rule over Rivers State will not work, it will not work. Don't touch me, it will not work."

This protest follows Tinubu's March 18, 2025, declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State due to escalating political tensions between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the House of Assembly.

The Ijaw Mothers' Union has urged the federal government to seek lasting solutions, emphasizing the need for governance that respects the region's political and cultural identity.
