Pastor Chris Oyakhilome Reveals Why Jesus Went to Hell After His Crucifixion

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, founder of LoveWorld Incorporated, recently explained why Jesus went to hell after His crucifixion, emphasizing the fulfillment of biblical prophecy.

In a sermon shared on YouTube, he referenced Zechariah 12:10 and Psalm 16:10 to highlight Christ's redemptive journey.

According to Pastor Chris, Zechariah 12:10 prophesied Christ's suffering, saying, "They shall look upon me whom they have pierced." This scripture, he explained, foreshadowed the crucifixion, where Jesus' hands and feet were pierced. However, the prophecy of His resurrection was declared in Psalm 16:10, which states, "For thou will not leave my soul in hell; neither will thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption."

He then addressed the crucial question: Why did Jesus go to hell? Pastor Chris explained that every sinner who died was condemned to hell, and since Jesus bore the sins of the entire world, He had to experience the same consequence. His descent into hell was necessary to complete the work of salvation.

However, Pastor Chris emphasized that Jesus did not remain in hell. He declared that while in hell, Christ defeated the devil and the demons of darkness, stripping them of their power. This, he said, fulfilled the prophecy that Jesus would not be left in hell, but rather, He would rise victoriously.

"In hell, He defeated the devil and came back to life in the earth-that was wonderful!" Pastor Chris proclaimed.

He concluded by glorifying God for this divine victory, reminding believers that Jesus' triumph over hell is the foundation of their salvation. His resurrection, as foretold in scripture, solidifies the hope of eternal life for all who believe in Him.
