Real Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti has revealed why he stopped Endrick from taking Los Blancos' final penalty in 4-2 win over neighbours, Atletico Madrid in the Champions League round of sixteen second leg on Wednesday.
The legendary Italian gaffer said the initial decision was for the Brazilian to hit the final penalty during the shootout.
He explained that he was discouraged by the youngster's facial expression and decided to shift the task to someone more confident, being Antonio Rüdiger.
He told the press after the game,
"On the final penalty we had a doubt, who should have taken the penalty between Rüdiger or Endrick.
"We wanted Endrick... But then I saw his face and I decided Rüdiger was the better option (laughs)".
Real Madrid went on to beat their city rivals 4-2 in the shootout and now have a date with Arsenal in the quarter finals of the 2024-25 Champions League season.
Meanwhike, Atletico Madrid boss, Diego Simeone expressed his displeasure over the decision by the video assistant referee to rule out Julian Alvarez's goal during the shootout.
The decision contributed to Atleti's elimination from the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Julian Alvarez's penalty was ruled out by VAR for double kick during the shootout and It was a major turning point in the game.
