Liverpool exited the Champions League as Arne Slot said he is proud of his team's effort
Liverpool manager, Arne Slot has revealed that he is proud of his team's valiant effort against Paris St Germain despite their exit from the Champions League.
PSG advanced to the quarter-finals after winning the two-legged tie with a 4-1 penalty shootout victory, following a 1-0 win at Anfield on Tuesday.
What Slot said
Despite the loss, Slot hailed the match as "the best game of football I've ever been involved in.
"Yeah, of course it's a shock. But if you have to go out, and go out in a way like we did against one of the best teams in Europe and make such a fight out of it, I hope and think that every fan around the world was hoping that this game just kept on going, that it wouldn't stop because it was incredible," Slot said via Reuters.
Slot remains optimistic about Liverpool's season, with the team holding a significant advantage in the Premier League title race and a League Cup final against Newcastle United on the horizon.
He continued, "We really showed ourselves, we can be proud of what we did, won seven games in a row.
"We got out in a way that I think we've impressed Europe... We were so unlucky to play Paris St Germain, but in the end if you want to win the tournament you need to beat teams like Paris St Germain."
Premier League leaders Liverpool have a commanding 15-point lead over Arsenal with only nine games remaining.
