According to reports, Steve Witkoff, a special envoy to former US President Donald Trump, has shared that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed regret to his American counterpart.
Witkoff provided this information on Monday, discussing a letter Zelenskyy sent to Trump.
He stated: "Zelenskyy sent a letter to the president. He apologised for that whole incident that happened in the office. I think that was an important step."
The letter reportedly included an apology regarding a tense incident in the Oval Office that hindered a significant deal related to critical minerals between the US and Ukraine.
Trump had previously mentioned the letter during a joint address to Congress the previous week.
Witkoff emphasized that Zelenskyy's apology marked an important development. He noted that discussions have been ongoing among the teams from the US, Ukraine, and relevant European nations, which he described as a positive step forward.
Witkoff expressed hope for a potential agreement, just before he was set to meet with Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia.
The tensions during the meeting on February 28 arose when Zelenskyy questioned the trustworthiness of Russian President Vladimir Putin in any peace negotiations, referencing past agreements that Putin had violated prior to the outbreak of full-scale war against Ukraine.
