Ukraine launched major drone attack targeting Moscow - Russia

Russia has said that Ukraine targeted its capital early on Tuesday in what appeared to be the biggest drone attack so far.

The attack reportedly forced the closure of two of the airports serving the city, sparking fires and damaging houses.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, in a post on the Telegram messaging app, said that no fewer than 60 drones were destroyed on approach towards the city.

"At the moment, the roof of a building in Moscow has been slightly damaged by falling debris from a downed UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle)," he said.

The mayor had earlier in a post, said there were no injuries.

Moscow and its surrounding region, with a population of at least 21 million, is said to be one of the biggest metropolitan areas in Europe, alongside Istanbul.

The attacks came as the United States is pushing for an end to the three-year war that Russia started with its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
