The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed that it is not concerned by the defection of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The party emphasized that the political landscape in the state remains strong, despite the former governor's departure from the ruling party.
Reports surfaced on Monday indicating that El-Rufai, a founding member of the APC, switched allegiance to the SDP.
However, reacting to the development, the Secretary of the Kaduna APC, Alhaji Yahaya Baba-Pate, stated that the party was not shaken by El-Rufai's exit.
According to The Sun, the further assured that the focus of the party remains on securing the state's support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani in the 2027 elections.
Baba-Pate highlighted the continued growth of the APC in Kaduna, citing the influx of high-profile politicians joining the party daily.
"We are not disturbed by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai's defection to another party.
Our main focus in Kaduna is on how to deliver the state to both President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani in 2027," Baba-Pate said.
He further emphasized that the APC in the state is expanding, citing the increasing number of political figures aligning with the party.
El-Rufai's defection stems from a growing disconnect between his personal values and the direction of the APC, which he claimed no longer reflects the progressive ideals upon which the party was founded.
In a statement released on his social media, El-Rufai expressed his disappointment with the current leadership of the APC, which he accuses of straying from the values he once shared with the party.
Despite El-Rufai's decision to leave, the APC in Kaduna remains confident in its continued dominance in the state's political sphere.
