Senator Opeyemi Bamidele has responded to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan's claim that he threatened her during her conflict with Senate President Godswill Akpabio. He said he called Natasha at midnight and put the call on speaker. He explained that senators often stay awake until 2 or 3 a.m., so he didn't think it was too late to call.
Speaking in a video shared by Viable Television, Bamidele said that when Natasha answered, the first thing he did was apologize and ask if he had woken her up. She told him no. He then asked about her husband, whom he referred to as his brother, and she replied that he was fine and right there with her. He said he then asked Natasha what would she gain if Akpabio was goes down?
Bamidele said Natasha responded by saying she didn't start the fight. He added that as she was speaking, his phone lost connection, and he had to end the call.
In Bamidele's words: "I took my phone and called Senator Natasha and placed it on speaker phone. I didn't think 12 midnight was anytime that we would not still be awake as senators. We go to bed 2 or 3am. When I called Senator Natasha the first thing I said was distinguished I am sorry I hope I did not wake you up. She said no sir. I said how is my brother, referring to her husband, she said he is fine and he is right here.
"And I said I called you to ask you a question and she said what. I said my sister what will you gain if Senate President Akpabio goes down, what do you stand to benefit? And she said 'well, I didn't start the fight". As she was talking my phone started saying reconnecting, meaning that my network was failing so I cut the call"
