Former Real Madrid captain, Karim Benzema, has revealed that the club's president, Florentino Perez, did not quite understand when he told him he was leaving the club.
According to Benzema, Perez was the first person he called to inform about his decision to leave Los Blancos.
The Frenchman left Real Madrid to join the Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad in the summer of 2023.
"Florentino Perez was the first person I called when I decided to leave Real Madrid," Benzema told @EduAguirre7.
"He didn't quite understand... I told him that the young stars, Vinicius and Rodrygo, were ready."
Benzema won five Champions League titles and four La Liga titles during his time at Madrid.
The 35-year-old attacker also won the coveted Ballon d'Or award during his time with the Champions League holders.
Benzema previously played for the French Ligue 1 club Lyon.
