Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have launched a destructive attack on Kwapre and surrounding villages in the Yadul District of Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
It was gathered on Wednesday that the attack started at about 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, and raged into the early hours of Wednesday, leaving churches, schools, houses, and business premises destroyed and valuable assets looted.
The Village Head of Kwapre, Mr. Joel Kulaha, and his colleague, the Village Head of King, Abalis Jawaja, told newsmen that the terrorists descended on the communities with ruthless efficiency, burning buildings and carting off valuables.
Indicating, however, that no lives were lost in this latest assault, Kulaha said residents who were forewarned of the attack fled their homes ahead of time.
"We escaped with our lives, but everything we own is gone," Kulaha lamented.
People with knowledge of the incident said soldiers on permanent duty in nearby Garaha town responded to the attack after a while, engaging the terrorists and forcing them to retreat to their hideouts.
They said, however, that the intervention came too late to prevent the widespread destruction that had already left the villages in ruins.
Torizone reports that Kwapre and surrounding settlements have often been victims of attacks since the beginning of the Boko Haram insurgency.
It is calculated that this latest attack would be the 10th.
