A senior commander in Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that a third large-scale missile attack on Israel would completely destroy the country, including its major cities, Tel Aviv and Haifa.
According to a report by Iran International English on its verified Twitter account, the high-ranking Iranian general stated that Iran's missile capabilities could lead to Israel's total annihilation in the event of another confrontation. The statement comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and Israel following previous missile strikes and ongoing hostilities in the region.
Iran's first direct attack on Israel occurred in April 2024, when the IRGC launched hundreds of drones and missiles in response to an Israeli airstrike on its consulate in Damascus, Syria. While most of those projectiles were intercepted, the attack signified a major escalation in hostilities. The second wave of attacks involved Iran's regional allies, including Hezbollah and Houthi rebels, targeting Israeli positions.
The latest threat from the Iranian general signals Tehran's continued stance of confrontation with Israel. It also aligns with Iran's longstanding policy of supporting armed groups in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen that have engaged in hostilities against Israel.
Israel has yet to respond officially to the Iranian general's remarks. However, Israeli officials have consistently warned of severe retaliation in the event of an attack. Tel Aviv has also strengthened its missile defense systems and sought increased military coordination with the United States to counter any potential Iranian aggression.
