A Nigerian lawyer has taken to social media to express concern over a legal anomaly involving a man facing trial.
In a post shared on X, formerly Twitter, the lawyer recounted an unusual occurrence in court, where a man arrested for armed robbery in 2020 and held in prison since then was suddenly listed as a suspect in a murder case that occurred in Yaba in 2022.
According to the lawyer, when the suspect was questioned about the crime, he insisted he could not have committed it, as he was in prison at the time.
The court was reportedly left in confusion, including the judge, over how the same individual could be charged with an offense that took place while he was behind bars.
The lawyer wrote: "Something unusual happened in court yesterday. A man standing trial for an armed robbery that occurred in 2020 in Lagos Island was also listed as a suspect in a 2022 murder case in Sabo, Yaba. Everyone in court, including the judge, was baffled-how could the same person have committed both crimes?"
"The alleged murder took place in Yaba while he was still in prison, making it impossible for him to be the perpetrator. Yet, his name and passport appeared in the information sheet. When asked if he committed the murder, he firmly denied it, stating that he had only been arrested for the armed robbery in Lagos Island."
The lawyer's revelation quickly gained traction online, sparking reactions from concerned individuals who flooded the comment section to share their thoughts.
