A lady has shared her ordeal after a University of Ilorin UNILORIN master's student sued her for ₦2.5 million over emotional damages and fraud simply because she refused to date him.
She narrated the incident in a post on X (formerly Twitter), explaining how their interaction began and escalated into a lawsuit.
According to her, she met the man while she was a 400-level student at Kwara State University. He expressed romantic interest in her, but she made it clear that she wasn't interested.
Despite her rejection, he continued sending her money and offering her gifts.
Eventually, when she firmly told him she had no feelings for him, he filed a lawsuit, accusing her of fraud.
She received calls from both his lawyer and the police, who claimed her attention was needed at the station.
They even threatened to send an official letter to her school.
However, she was able to clear her name, as their chat history proved she had repeatedly declined his money and gifts.
Recounting the events, she wrote:
"The guy is a master's student at UNILORIN. When we met, I told him he wasn't my type, but he refused to leave me alone."
"He kept sending me money and giving me everything I wanted. When I finally told him I had nothing to offer him, we stopped talking for two weeks. Suddenly, I got a call from the police, saying I had been charged with fraud."
"His lawyer also called, insisting I was a fraud. I immediately contacted my brother, who works with the DSS, and our family lawyer. This man was prepared-he had printed all the receipts of the money he sent me."
"The only thing that saved me was that our chats showed I had always rejected his money and told him I wasn't interested."
She revealed that the case was eventually taken to the government house for settlement. During the mediation, the man insisted that she either marry him or meet him in court.
He even claimed he had processed a Canadian visa for couples and included her name.
Reflecting on how it all started, she explained that he initially got her account number through a refund.
"I forgot to mention that he got my account number when we first met. I went out to buy food but couldn't pay due to bank issues, so he helped me. Later, when we went out again, the bank network failed on his end, so I paid. He asked for my account number to refund me, and that's how he got it."
"From the start, I told him I couldn't date him. He then suggested we be friends, and I agreed."
As her story gained traction online, social media users flooded the comment section, sharing their reactions to her experience.
