Panic in Abia as mentally unstable man kills woman, twin children

There is panic in Ndagbo Afara, Umuahia North LGA of Abia State where a mentally challenged man killed a woman and her twin children.

This is as residents fear the suspect, who is still at large, may return and attack them.

We recall that the twin children, Moses Chris and Marvelous Chris who were four years of age, were on Tuesday, killed and buried in a shallow grave by their mother's brother, one Mr Ibekwe Augustine James, said to be mentally unstable.

The suspect also killed the mother of the children, Chinomso Nwabali James who was his sister.

According to Abia State Police Command, it was reported at the Central Police Station Umuahia that the suspect was discovered dragging the lifeless body of his sister in the family compound but abandoned it when his abominable acts were discovered by a family member, before fleeing to an unknown place.

But, despite the assurances by the Police Spokesperson that all efforts were on to arrest the fleeing suspect, some of the residents around the building where the incident happened have expressed fear that the mentally unstable man may stage a surprise return and strike again.

The Ndagbo Afara residents who spoke under anonymity, appealed to the State government and the Police to ensure that the suspect is apprehended.

Speaking on the situation, the Police Public Relations Officer of Abia State Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka restated the need for families to take their relations confirmed to be suffering from mental problems to psychiatric homes for treatment and rehabilitation rather than keeping them in their homes.

She, however, promised that efforts were on to nab the fleeing suspect.
