The former Arsenal manager has left the Gunners fate in divine hands as the Premier League title run-in kicks into gear
Legendary former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has jokingly admitted that he may need to pray harder if the Gunners are to end their two-decade-long Premier League title drought this season.
Speaking to BeIN Sports, the Frenchman subtly acknowledged that Mikel Arteta's side faces an uphill battle, with Liverpool still holding a seven-point lead at the top of the table.
Wenger concedes Liverpool are 'super favourites'
The 75-year-old, who led Arsenal to their last league triumph in 2004's Invincible season, knows just how difficult it will be for his former club to reclaim the title. However, he hasn't lost hope-turning to faith as a last resort.
Wenger broke down Arsenal's title chances, highlighting how dominant Liverpool have been this season, saying, "Look, it's simple. They [Liverpool] need to lose games. But now we have played 25 games and Liverpool have lost one. They will have to lose at least three in the next thirteen games."
He continued, acknowledging the odds are heavily stacked in Liverpool's favour, adding, "At this moment, it looks unlikely unless they collapse. But until now, they have lost only one game. So they are the super favourites.
"On top of that, Arsenal have to make another perfect run. So I pray, but I have to improve the quality of my praying," he added with a smile.
Crunch fixtures ahead for Arsenal
Despite Wenger's doubts, Arsenal are still in the fight, with key games on the horizon. The Gunners face West Ham at the Emirates next, before a challenging trip to the City Ground to take on Nottingham Forest.
With 13 games left to play, Arteta's side will need to be faultless and hope for a Liverpool collapse to have any realistic shot at the title.
They are currently seven points behind Liverpool and will need several things to go their way to get back into the title race.
Wenger will be hoping that his improved prayers can help Arsenal finally reclaim English football's biggest prize and fans will be hoping for divine intervention as the season reaches its climax.
