Manchester United loanee returns to Carrington after breaking his foot in training

One Manchester United loanee has returned to Carrington after suffering from a foot injury in training just two weeks after he departed Old Trafford.

Manchester United's 2025 winter transfer window has faced strong criticism from fans after the club failed to strengthen key areas of Rúben Amorim's squad.

United bolstered their defence with the signings of Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven, but the lack of attacking reinforcements has left supporters frustrated.

Meanwhile, three first-team forwards-Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Ethan Wheatley-departed on loan, along with several Academy players seeking more game time elsewhere, while multiple Academy players also left for the remainder of the season.

One positive is the signing of promising left-back Diego Leon, who will officially join United on 1 July after finishing the season with Cerro Porteño in Paraguay.

Gore returns to United after injury

One of the United Academy starlets who departed on loan for the remainder of the season is midfielder Dan Gore, who joined Rotherham on a temporary basis.

However, according to the Manchester Evening News, the 20-year-old has now returned to Carrington after suffering from a foot injury in training after a positive debut against Birmingham.

Gore was in line to be involved in their tie against Shrewsbury but had to pull out, with the report explaining that he has suffered a hairline fracture in his foot and will undergo rehabilitation at Carrington.

It is thought that the player will be out for around a month, and once he returns to fitness, he will head back to Rotherham.

Rotherham manager reacts to Gore's injury

Gore has not had a great time since he started developing into senior football, having suffered from a freak shoulder injury last year.

However, Rotherham boss Steve Evans has explained that he understands the decision to return to United for now and that he feels for Gore after seeing his reaction to the latest injury set back.

"I think that four full-time doctors and eight physios tells you where he should be," said Rotherham boss Steve Evans about Gore returning to United.

"We've done that with other loan players in the past. Their progress is quicker because they have more medical back-up on hand. He's in a good place there. The medical people say you can have a delayed reaction to it. It's unusual for that to happen but it can happen. We have to accept that.

"I saw how much the kid was hurting when he heard he was going to be out for that four-week period or so. The reaction was genuine, he wants to play. I'm an experienced manager.

"You get a gut feeling about these things. He's at the stage where - in the words of the coaching staff at Manchester United - he needs to be playing."
