A top Iranian cleric has compared U.S. President Donald Trump to the one-eyed figure that is predicted in Islamic eschatology as a herald of the end times and a deceiver, according to Iran international.
The words were given during the Friday sermon by Seyyed Hassan Ameli, who is the representative of the Supreme Leader in Ardabil, according to Didban News of Tehran. "He is completely one eyed, and this is a sign of the end times," Ameli said, comparing Trump to Dajjal, the false messiah in Islamic theology.
Islam teaches that in the end times, a corrupt figure named Dajjal would appear, promising people prosperity and authority but in reality, she will spread corruption. Expanding on his analogy, Ameli attacked Trump's worldview. The incoming president of the United States has an utterly biased perspective.
He freely asserts that America is a corporate entity and views the world through a purely materialistic lens," he stated. Ameli claims that Trump's unreasonable appetite for wealth motivated his foreign policy. "He covets wealth wherever it exists, whether it's Middle Eastern oil, Syrian oil, or Ukraine's minerals," he said.
These comments follow Trump's decision to reinstate the "maximum pressure" sanctions he and his administration put on Iran during his first term in office in an effort to deter the country's nuclear program. Meanwhile, he has been heavily criticized for his idea to turn Gaza into a luxury resort after Israel's military operations. Even Iran's top leader, Ali Khamenei, called it a fantasy.
In describing Trump's policies as exploitative and representative of Western imperialism, Ameli's remarks echo Iran's larger official position against them. Even if Trump is still a contentious figure around the world, his previous moves have an impact on geopolitical tensions, especially those between Iran and the United States.
