United States President, Donald Trump has warned Canada that the country is exposed to growing threats from Russian and Chinese warships.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump insisted that Canada lacks sufficient defenses to counter modern security challenges.
"Take a look at what's going on out there (Canada), you have Russian ships, you have Chinese ships, you have a lot of ships out there, and you know, people are in danger," Trump said.
"This is a different world. Today it's a different world.
"They don't have any military protection because they essentially don't spend enough."
He added,
"I have had a good relationship with President Putin, I have had a good relationship with President Xi."
Just last month, Trump said that Canadians would have "much better" health coverage if Canada became the 51st state in the United States.
Trump made the remarks during a briefing in North Carolina after railing on the U.S.-Canada trade relationship.
The Republican also said Canadians will enjoy a big tax cut.
He said,
"I would love to see Canada be the 51st state.
"The Canadian citizens, if that happened, would get a very big tax cut - a tremendous tax cut - because they are very highly taxed."
