The management of Western Delta University, Oghara has threatened to ban about 63 students from International Christian Centre, Uhogua in Benin City, Edo State from writing the upcoming first semester examinations over alleged tuition fees of N116, 323 million.
We reported that the Coordinator of the International Christian Centre for Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs,
Pastor Solomon A. Folorunsho, disclosed this in a letter made available to newsmen in Benin City.
The letter was titled,
"Re: Overdue payment of School Fees for IDPs Sponsored Students".
The letter written by the Acting Registrar of the university, E. O. Ofotokun dated February 5, 2025, was addressed to Pastor Solomon A. Folorunsho, the Coordinator of the International Christian Centre.
In the letter, Mr Ofotokun said the International centre was indebted to the institution to the tune of N116,
323 million after the initial payment of N7,5 million in March, 2024.
The letter read in part: We write to follow up on our previous correspondence regarding the outstanding debt incurred by your organization for sponsored students in Western Delta University, Oghara.
"As you may recall, your team visited our institution twice to discuss payment modalities and we were assured of regular payments to settle the indebtedness.
"Unfortunately, our records indicate that only N7,500,000 (seven million five hundred thousand naira only) has been paid since March last year.
"The total outstanding amount for the 2024/2025 academic session now stands at N116, 323,000, one hundred and sixteen million three hundred and twenty-three thousand naira only.
"This significant debt poses a substantial challenge to the University's operations, as we rely heavily on timely tuition payments. In light of the above, Management has decided to take drastic action to recover the debt.
"Consequently, all your sponsored students will not be permitted to sit for the upcoming first semester examinations until this debt is settled.
"We advise you to provide a comprehensive payment schedule to ensure the significant reduction of this indebtedness. We expect a prompt response regarding this matter", he said.
