Tinubu directs Ministers to brief Nigerians on performance

President Bola Tinubu has directed all ministers in his administration to promptly present performance reports to the Nigerian public.

This directive was announced by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

Idris stated that ministers are required to provide regular updates to the media on their activities and policies. These briefings will serve as a platform for direct engagement with the public, allowing ministers to highlight key achievements within their ministries and address citizens' concerns. He further explained that ministers will participate in these press briefings on a rotational basis each week.

The ministerial press briefings are being organized ahead of Tinubu's second anniversary in office, reflecting the government's commitment to transparency and keeping the public informed about its programs and initiatives.

Meanwhile, the federal government has commenced the process of appointing a new Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF) and two federal permanent secretaries following President Tinubu's approval.

According to reports, this development was disclosed on Monday night in Abuja by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, in a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Eno Olotu.

Walson-Jack emphasized that the selection process will adhere to a structured, multi-tiered evaluation system approved by the President, ensuring that only qualified, credible, and competent individuals are appointed. This approach reinforces the government's commitment to a transparent and merit-based selection process.

She further explained that the two vacant permanent secretary positions resulted from the recent retirement of a permanent secretary from Oyo State and an impending vacancy in the North-West geopolitical zone. Additionally, the position of Accountant-General of the Federation will become vacant upon the retirement of the current officeholder in March 2025.
