A tenant has shared a bizarre experience about his 24-year-old landlord, who insists that tenants subscribe to his YouTube channel and follow him on Instagram before addressing any maintenance issues in the building.
Taking to social media, the tenant recounted how complaints about faulty amenities, such as a leaking roof, were met with demands to engage with the landlord's social media pages before he would take action.
"My landlord is 24 years old. If you reach out to him with a complaint about your apartment-say, a leaking roof-he'll tell you to follow him on Instagram and subscribe to his YouTube channel before he does anything," the tenant wrote.
He went on to share another incident where the landlord abruptly left a WhatsApp group chat for tenants after someone responded with "???" in confusion over a statement.
The landlord allegedly found this disrespectful and exited the group just five minutes after being added.
"Once, he was added to the group chat so he could see how we were organizing to buy diesel for the water pump. He left after five minutes because someone said something he found insulting. Ironically, he frequently uses '???' in conversations, even with his attorney," the tenant added.
Criticizing the landlord's attitude, he further revealed that the landlord had instructed his lawyer to increase their rent by 35% after his own rent in Lekki allegedly jumped from ₦5 million to ₦7 million.
"That's the same person you expect to fix things? Someone we've never even seen in person?" he wrote.
As the post gained traction online, social media users flooded the comments section, sharing their thoughts on the unusual situation.

@EMZO_001: "That's actually funny. He's a tech oriented person with mild touch of genZ. Imagine he sends police after you cause you refused to follow him on IG."
@kalyxmoses: "And yet you are not sharing his accounts here for a discount on rent. Do we have teach you everything?"
@AimThaMachine_: "If he does everything after y'all follow him on Instagram and subscribe to his YouTube, then I do not see any issue here. That's a proactive young man. Let him flex and y'all must be part of his story."
@stephenaaay: "Ask to strike a deal. You get him hundred subscribers and hundred followers and you pay only half rent."
