Chelsea were eliminated from the FA Cup after losing 2-1 to Brighton today, for which I shall blame Enzo Maresca. The Chelsea's manager started a weak lineup, with Nkunku, Chalobah, and Malo Gusto having the worst performances today.
The blues were expecting to maintain their good run after beating West Ham on Monday, and the football world had already picked them as favourites, given that Brighton had suffered a 7-0 setback at the hands of Nottingham Forest in their last match.
Enzo Maresca's days can be said to be numbered as a result of his inconsistent performance since joining the club. His tactics and decision seems be working against him since the beginning of this year and it has cost Chelsea lots of points. I believe he should immediately be shown the exit door before things get worst.
Chelsea started the game well and their efforts paid off as they forced an own goal in the fifth minute, but Brighton responded quickly with Georginio's equalizer seven minutes later. The Blues showed little signs of regaining control of the game, and Brighton took advantage by taking the lead early in the second half thanks to a fantastic finish from Mitoma. Brighton were able to maintain their focus and fend off a Chelsea team till the last minute of the match.
Given Chelsea's lack of consistency, if Chelsea owners ever consider stacking Enzo Maresca, these are three tactical managers that could succeed him at Stamford Bridge;
1. Xabi Alonso:
Xabi is one of the world's most talented football managers, as seen by his work with Bayer Leverkusen last season. The youthful tactician has a unique method that complements Chelsea's style of play. I believe he can return Chelsea to where they were before.
2. Zinedine Zidane:
You would all agree with me that just a few managers in world football can match Zidane's resume. He thrived well tat Real Madrid and I have no doubt in his capabilities to get Chelsea back to winning trophies.
3. Mauricio Pochettino:
The 52-year-old gaffer is also an ideal option for Enzo at Chelsea. Given how Maresca has performed, I believe Pochettino would have done better if the club had not fired him, because he was clearly improving his methods near the conclusion of last season.
