Mikel Arteta and his team were their own worst enemies as they were eliminated from the Carabao Cup tournament after losing 2-0(4-0 o aggregate) to Newcastle on Wednesday.
They had a mountain to climb heading into the game after falling behind two goals in the first leg, but they got off to a bad start. Newcastle made a solid start despite not having the majority of the possession and could have taken the lead with an Isak goal that was disallowed on the 7th minute.
Arsenal had a golden chance to go up minutes later, but Martin Odegaard shot hit the post. Newcastle scored again seconds later, and this time it was counted, thanks to Jacob Murphy in the 19th minute.
The Gunners dreams of making the final were fully dashed in the second half when Anthony Gordon found himself well placed to collect the ball after Declan Rice was caught off guard by a poor David Raya pass, and the winger quickly rolled it into the net.
Meanwhile, Havertz was one of Arsenal's poorest performers tonight, and his anonymous performance demonstrated why Arteta should buy a top-tier striker
Arsenal's next Premier League game will be away against relegation-threatened Leicester City. The Gunners have won their past six games against Leicester, with the last setback coming in 2020. Based on the stats and present condition of both clubs, this game provides hope for Arteta and his team to turn things around, and I have no doubt that they will win.
The game would take place on February 15th, starting at 1:30pm.
