Manchester United's latest signing, Patrick Dorgu, has revealed the reason behind his choice of the number 13 shirt. The Danish full-back, who arrived from Lecce, explained that the number holds special significance for him and represents continuity in his career.
"I had it since I joined Lecce, and I think it's good to keep going with what's working well," Dorgu said in an exclusive interview. The young defender wore the number during his time in Italy, where he developed into one of Europe's most promising left-backs.
Many players are superstitious about the number 13, but Dorgu embraces it with confidence. "For some, 13 is an unlucky number, but for me, it has brought success. I feel comfortable with it, and I want to continue the journey with the same number," he explained.
His decision reflects his belief in consistency and staying true to what has worked for him in the past. At Lecce, he made a name for himself wearing the number 13, helping his team compete at a high level in Serie A. Now, he hopes to bring that same energy and determination to Manchester United.
Dorgu is expected to play a key role in United's defensive setup, and his confidence in his number choice shows his strong mentality. "It's a number that feels right for me, and I'm happy to wear it here at United," he said.
The Denmark international follows in the footsteps of the likes of Ji-sung Park, Brian McClair and John Curtis, who have previously been allocated that position in the squad.
Goalkeeper Lee Grant was the last to have it, during the 2021/22 season.
