Newcastle United missed a crucial opportunity to solidify their position in the Premier League top four after surrendering a 1-0 lead to suffer a 2-1 defeat at home to Fulham.
The match started quietly with Newcastle dominating possession but struggling to create clear chances. Jacob Murphy's wild shot, well off target, set the tone for the Magpies' misfiring attack. Anthony Gordon and Fabian Schär also failed to test Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno, leaving Newcastle fans frustrated by their side's inability to capitalize on early dominance. Fulham, who were cautious in the opening period, eventually paid the price when Gordon's cross was inadvertently cleared into Murphy's path, allowing him to score into an empty net and give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Fulham responded with more intent, registering more shots in the first 10 minutes than they had in the entire first half. Despite their increased pressure, none of the early efforts seriously tested Martin Dúbravka in the Newcastle goal. However, the equalizer came just after the hour mark when Fulham launched a rapid counter-attack. Antonee Robinson's cut-back found Raúl Jiménez, whose shot deflected past Dúbravka to level the score.
Newcastle struggled to regain their rhythm, and despite a close effort from Alexander Isak, whose shot hit the post, Fulham completed the comeback with less than 10 minutes remaining. Substitute Rodrigo Muniz rose to head home at the near post, handing Fulham all three points and a valuable victory on the road.
Newcastle's inability to press home their advantage left them with regrets, missing the chance to climb back into the top four, while Fulham celebrated a well-earned victory.
