Lanre Toluhi, a political commentator, recently criticized the leadership of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) during an interview with News Central. He expressed frustration over how the party has handled accusations of anti-party activities, especially concerning Nyesom Wike, a prominent member of the party.
Toluhi described the PDP's National Working Committee (NWC) as "unserious" and lacking integrity and discipline. According to him, Wike openly stated that he would work against the party during the presidential election and followed through with his actions. However, despite this, the party has not taken any strong action to discipline him.
Toluhi also accused some party leaders of being overly loyal to Wike, even to the extent of carrying his luggage and attending functions with him. He mentioned how Wike has insulted a sitting PDP governor during public events, yet the party leadership failed to respond or take action. This, according to Toluhi, shows a lack of seriousness and respect within the PDP leadership.
He also criticized Umar Damagum, the party's acting chairman, accusing him of overstaying his position and not taking decisive steps to resolve these issues. Toluhi referred to Wike's past criticism of the PDP leadership, where Wike called them "tax collectors," and questioned why they still allow him to act without consequences.
Toluhi noted that the PDP leaders should treat their roles more seriously, emphasizing that being a party leader means prioritizing the party's welfare and discipline over personal friendships.
