A Nigerian footballer has reportedly been arrested and imprisoned in Turkey for fraud crimes.
Uche 'Arda' Victor Odimba, a Nigerian footballer, has reportedly been arrested and imprisoned in Turkey for fraud-related offences.
The 33-year-old is a football journeyman in every sense of the word, having played for 17 different clubs in Turkey. He has been in the country since at least 2010 and acquired citizenship; hence, he adopted the first name Arda.
The details
According to a report from Ekol TV, relayed by Ntvspor, the Lagos-born footballer, who played predominantly as a striker, was a member of a crime ring.
Law enforcement agents raided their base and were said to have found fake documents, electronic devices and evidence of fraud, all of which were seized.
The raid was triggered by a Bulgarian, who was scammed with the false claim of an inheritance. The unsuspecting victim was said to have been swindled out of 2.5 million Turkish Lira.
The victim reported to the authorities, who reacted swiftly, arresting the footballer and three accomplices. Odimba was described as the leader of the racket in a report by Haberler, as he provided each member with a bank account and took cuts from scam proceeds.
Odimba and his cohorts were arrested and summarily brought before a judge who has reportedly sent them to prison.
