Premier League release statement as VAR disallows late Man Utd goal vs Fulham

According to Daily Express, the Premier League has provided an explanation for why VAR ruled out Manchester United's late goal against Fulham on Sunday. Amad Diallo thought he had sealed the victory in the 94th minute, doubling the lead to 2-0 after Lisandro Martinez's deflected goal had put United ahead 1-0 earlier in the match.

The Ivorian forward played a clever one-two with Joshua Zirkzee before slotting the ball past Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno in stoppage time. However, VAR officials Jarred Gillett and Darren Cann reviewed the play after noticing an issue during the build-up to the goal. After the review, referee Anthony Taylor disallowed the goal, and United managed to hold on for a vital 1-0 win at Craven Cottage.

The Premier League later explained that Amad's goal was ruled out due to an offside position, with replays showing his shoulder was marginally ahead of Timothy Castagne when the pass was made. In a statement posted via their official Match Centre on X (formerly Twitter), the Premier League clarified: "Amad's goal was initially awarded on-field. VAR checked and established that Amad was in an offside position in the build-up and recommended that the goal was disallowed."

Despite the disallowed goal, United manager Ruben Amorim was pleased with his team's determination to secure the win. He also praised Toby Collyer's goal-line clearance in the final moments. "It's really important to have this feeling away from home. Great support from our away fans. Not a great game and no great chances," Amorim told TNT Sports. "We tried to play our game, but we need to improve a lot. We held the result in the end, and we closed the game - it is really important to win now."

Speaking about the clean sheet, Amorim added, "Really important because clearly you are closer to winning games, and it gives you confidence. We didn't suffer too much today and that is a good sign. We scored, and we move onto the next game."
