Anthony Martial continues sparkling run of form after leaving Man Utd, powering title race for new club

Manchester United's forwards are not consistently scoring goals and the team is fighting to finish in the top-half, but Anthony Martial is a reformed man.

Anthony Martial left Man Utd in the summer upon the expiry of his contract, doing so in a whimper, with his last appearance being in 2023 due to injury.

Martial had to take quite a few steps down for his next club, joining the likes of Facundo Pellistri and Shola Shoretire in Greece.

AEK Athens was the club of his choosing and Martial was immediately treated as a big deal, although how big a deal he still was on the pitch was up in the air.

Apparently, still quite big!

Anthony Martial shines for AEK Athens

Martial's story in Greece has been the polar opposite of what it was at Old Trafford.

At Man United, he arrived in a blaze of glory, scoring at the Stretford End on his debut against arch-rivals Liverpool in a moment straight out of dreams.

Since then, it kept going downhill, ending with his contract becoming an albatross around the club's neck and leaving on a free transfer.

At AEK Athens, he had a nightmare debut but has since gone strength to strength, including doing something he never did for Man Utd!

Martial found himself on an incredible streak in Greece and recently capped off another fine game with a match-winning goal against Panetolikos in their 1-0 victory.

It was Martial's fifth league goal for the club and takes his team to just three points behind Olympiacos at the top, having played a game more.

Martial is right in the mix for a league title in his first season in Greece and he's loving life in Greece.

Martial can still redeem himself

Because he broke through and saw such heady heights right away, it is easy to forget that Martial is still only 29, theoretically at his peak as a striker.

In Greece's slower league, playing for a team that is expected to dominate against most opponents, he's found the perfect match to rediscover his love for the game.

Martial has always been one to not relish the daily pressure and grind of being under intense scrutiny so time away from the spotlight is undoubtedly helping him recharge.

If he can stitch up a great campaign or two in Greece, then he can still finish his career at the level his talent merits, maybe as an impact sub for a big club in a top-five league.

His body won't allow him to be at his maximum every game if he plays at the top level but most Man Utd fans will be happy to just see him enjoy his football again.
