Arsenal kicked off from where they left off in the Premier League today when they visited the Molineux Stadium to face Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Gunners eyed a win from this encounter to narrow the gap on League Leaders Liverpool.
Both teams had a slow start to the game, looking to find their rhythm on the pitch and also search for the opening goal in their favour. The Gunners had more of the possession, created a few goalscoring chances but still couldn't find the back of the net.
Unfortunately for Arsenal, Myles Lewis-Skelly was given a straight red card in the 36th minute of the game. The English Left-Back stopped Wolves' counter-attack by committing a reckless foul which reduced Arsenal to 10 men on the pitch. A 10-man Arsenal team played a goalless draw with Wolves at halftime.
Wolverhampton Wanderers were also red-carded in the 70th minute of the game after João Gomes picked up his second yellow card. Arsenal finally took the lead in the 73rd minute of the game. Riccardo Calafiori came off the bench and scored that important opening goal for the Gunners against Wolves. The scoreline remained unchanged as Arsenal secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory at full-time.
Liverpool on the other hand secured their second straight victory in the competition today when they hosted Ipswich Town at the Anfield Stadium. The Anfield Giants performed incredibly in the encounter to bag a well-deserved 4-1 victory over the visitors. Cody Gakpo's brace along with goals from Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai were all Liverpool needed to secure maximum points from this crucial encounter.
