Igbo in diaspora to meet in USA over Nnamdi Kanu, security challenges

Igbo people residing overseas will on Saturday hold an emergency general meeting of the World Igbo Congress (WIC) to address issues affecting Igboland in Nigeria.

The WIC Vice Chairman, Hon Basil Onwukwe, said in a statement that the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the World Igbo Congress, Dr. Festus Okere directed him to summon the emergency meeting of Igbo leaders in Diaspora on Saturday, Jan 25th, 2025, at noon USA Eastern time and 7.00pm Alaigbo time.

The planning committee of the meeting said that no better time could not have come than now to convene the meeting which they disclosed it's main agenda to include the prolonged incarceration of the leader of the Ingenious People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and insecurity pervading the landscape of South East Nigeria and other parts of Igboland.

Onwukwe said that, "This meeting couldn't have come at a better time when homeland leadership is unimaginably inept; when politicians cannot support the right to life of our youths in the public.

"The militarization of our homeland and the deliberate plot to deprive us security is a clear present danger. The abductions and locking up or killing on sight raid in homeland is the height of betrayal and an irreconcilable threat to national unity.

"This meeting will enable us to fashion a diaspora solution for Ndigbo and form a strong alliance to solve the pending issues, including Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's unlawful incarceration."
