Manchester United fans dropped a telling reaction to Toby Collyer's performance after the Red Devils defeated Rangers 2-1 at Old Trafford in the Europa League.
The Red Devils played out a 0-0 scoreline in the first half on Thursday evening before Ruben Amorim's men broke the deadlock after the break.
Jack Butland put Manchester United into the lead after a comical clearance, with the ball from Christian Eriksen's corner skidding off the Rangers 'keeper's punch.
The ball landed in the back of Jack Butland's net and United led for a large part of the second half before Rangers hit back in the 88th minute at Old Trafford.
United's defence was caught fast asleep and Harry Maguire failed to pick up Cyriel Dessers, who managed to latch onto Marcus Tavernier's over-the-top ball.
Cyriel Dessers then buried the ball past Altay Bayindir before Bruno Fernandes came to United's rescue in injury time and found the crucial winner for the Red Devils.
Collyer handed big opportunity vs Rangers
Manchester United's win over Rangers has put the Red Devils in a strong position in the Europa League table ahead of securing their place in the knockout rounds.
Ruben Amorim's side are now fourth in the Europa League standings and United are one point behind third-place Athletic Bilbao and second-place Eintracht Frankfurt.
United have won all four of their Europa League matches since Ruben Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag as Red Devils manager in 2024.
Amorim made the bold call to hand Toby Collyer his first start for a European match and the youth academy product stepped up for United on the big occasion.
The 21-year-old defensive midfielder played alongside Bruno Fernandes in the heart of midfield and Collyer kept himself busy with his performance.
Collyer was confident and calm on the ball and the United player secured 73 valuable first-team minutes before he was taken off for Manuel Ugarte.
Man Utd fans react to Collyer's Europa League display
United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, praised Collyer for producing another strong showing for the Red Devils in the 2024-25 campaign.
Collyer has made sporadic appearances for the Red Devils and the youth academy product impressed with his performance against Southampton last week.
One Red Devils supporter insisted that the United midfielder's performances "aren't going unnoticed," while another claimed that he is the "best player" for the pivot.
"Toby Collyer, these performances aren't going unnoticed," one fan said.
Someone else wrote: "Toby Collyer has really played like an experienced CDM today... the midfielder's future is bright."
Another added: "Toby Collyer. Did everything you'd want him to do in a simple, mature way. Well done."
"Toby Collyer was balling tonight. Thanks for the service," someone else commented.
While a fifth claimed: "Our best player in the pivot is Toby Collyer, BTW."
"I would like to see Ugarte and Collyer in the pivot," a sixth X user tweeted.
Somebody else posted: "Collyer is so solid... I think we may have someone who can play in the pivot."
And an eighth said: "Toby Collyer is a great, great prospect. [His] simplicity of the game is the most difficult thing for a midfielder."
