Victor Osimhen has landed in hot water after allegedly assaulting a Turkish journalist after he was caught on tape.
Victor Osimhen's latest antics have certainly sparked serious controversy in the football world.
The 26-year-old Galatasaray striker and 2023 CAF Player of the Year winner has reportedly found himself at the centre of a scandal involving violence, threats, and an alleged bribe aimed at silencing the press.
Osimhen accused of punching and screaming at Turkish journalists
According to Turkish publication Posta, the shocking drama unfolded late on Thursday evening after a disappointing result for Galatasaray in the UEFA Europa League two days earlier, with Osimhen, dressed in a beanie and a yellow hoodie, and his entourage leaving a swanky entertainment venue.
However, when the Super Eagles star was approached by photographers, all hell apparently broke loose.
The cameras were flashing, and Osimhen's temper allegedly went into overdrive.
Posta journalist Tolga Bozduman was on the receiving end of Osimhen's fury as he recounted how he was allegedly assaulted by the Galatasaray striker.
The shocking moment escalated from a simple photo opportunity to a full-on physical attack, with Osimhen reportedly attacking Bozduman with such intensity that the journalist was left nursing a painful injury.
"When the camera flashes went off, all hell broke loose," Bozduman recounted, clearly still rattled by the altercation.
"Osimhen screamed and lunged at me. He tried to take my camera away from me, but I didn't let him. He punched me in the head-it still hurts."
'Destroy the Footage, I'll Give You Money' - Osimhen accused of threatening and allegedly offering 'shut up' money
But if the violent outburst wasn't enough, Osimhen reportedly attempted to cover up his actions with an offer that shocked everyone involved.
According to the journalist via the aforementioned outlet, after the attack, the footballer allegedly tried to bribe Bozduman into deleting the incriminating photos.
"He offered, 'Destroy the footage, I'll give you money,'" Bozduman revealed, describing the audacious request.
But when the journalist refused to comply, the situation escalated further.
"He said, 'I'll destroy you,'" Bozduman claimed, detailing the chilling threat that followed upon the denial of Osimhen's alleged request.
This dramatic and disturbing series of events has left fans and the media world reeling.
The incident also raises more questions than answers about the Super Eagles star's conduct off the pitch.
This would not be the first time Osimhen gets into altercations when he isn't banging the goals.
In August last year, a video of Osimhen at a well-known nightclub in Naples went viral on social media.
The fourteen-second video shows Osimhen approaching the fan angrily, obviously annoyed that he is being filmed, before it cuts off.
The Nigeria international visibly forced his way through the crowd to take the phone away from the fan's grasp after realising he was being filmed.
Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, claimed that the striker was reportedly irritated by being caught up in late-night Neapolitan nightlife.
