'I didn't grant any interview' - Okocha denies saying NFF board members should be sacked

Former Super Eagles captain Austin Okocha has flatly denied rumours that he asked for the dissolution of the Nigeria Football Federation's (NFF) board.

Last week, Okocha reportedly voiced his disapproval of the way the Nigerian football federation is managing the sport.

The controversy started when an internet post claimed that Okocha had openly criticised the NFF for hiring Eric Chelle to take over as head coach of Nigeria's senior team.

The Super Eagles legend has come out to explain after the comment caused a great deal of reaction on social media.

Okocha denies report

The former Nigerian player addressed the accusations on Lagos Talks FM, calling them unfounded and expressing his displeasure at the dissemination of misleading information.

According to Vanguard, he said, "I didn't grant any interview. I don't know why the person that wrote that story quoted me.

"If you want to talk to me, you can call me. We might have similar opinions on certain things, but let it come from me.

"Even if you know that things are wrong in the NFF, you cannot say they should dissolve the NFF Board. There is a process; they are elected."

Okocha also emphasised his tight ties to important Nigerian football figures, such as Victor Ikpeba, Augustine Eguavoen and NFF President Ibrahim Gusau.

He continued, "I am close to (Ibrahim) Gusau, Victor (Ikpeba), Garba (Lawal) and (Augustine) Eguavoen and being a football person, if I have anything to say, I'll reach out and talk to them.

"I don't have to communicate to them through the press. If I talk to them and they don't listen or don't see value in what I'm saying, then I can go public."
