According to Manchester evening News, Manchester United are reportedly planning a £51 million bid for Sporting Lisbon's Ousmane Diomande during the January transfer window. The move is said to be influenced by head coach Ruben Amorim, who previously worked with Diomande at Sporting and is eager for a reunion.
United have struggled this season, sitting closer to the Premier League relegation zone than the top four, with 32 goals conceded in 22 games. To address their defensive issues, the club is looking to bolster their backline by targeting the 6ft 3in Ivorian center-back.
Despite interest from other clubs, Amorim's connection with Diomande could be a decisive factor in securing the transfer. Sporting, currently leading Liga Portugal and vying for a Champions League Round of 16 spot, may be reluctant to sell the young talent, especially since Diomande's contract runs until 2027.
Previously, Amorim stated he would not pursue Sporting players in January, but reports suggest he may have reconsidered. While the source of the rumor, Fichajes, isn't highly reliable, further confirmation from reputable outlets is awaited.
