Manchester United's January transfer window has been dominated by the Marcus Rashford situation that has ebbed and flowed with developments daily.
It started with Marcus Rashford being dropped from the squad for the Manchester Derby, escalated by Rashford seeking a 'new challenge', and since then, has snowballed into a full transfer saga.
From Rashford being linked to AC Milan, to Barcelona entering the race, or denials of Saudi or Monaco, it has, there's been everything except a resolution.
That resolution could come now after a new sacking beyond Manchester United has the potential to change everything for him.
Marcus Rashford and a sacking at Borussia Dortmund
Dortmund recently emerged as a concrete option for Rashford, even though his wages make any potential deal difficult.
Generally, if a manager of the club is sacked while the club is being linked to the player, it spells the end of the interest because plans change.
However, the sacking of Nuri Sahin as the head coach of Borussia Dortmund could accelerate their interest instead of halting it if the stars align.
That is because Erik ten Hag has been linked to the Dortmund job in recent weeks after attending games at their stadium, almost acting as a shadow coach for Sahin.
If that ends up being a reality, then Ten Hag might well sanction the arrival of the player who had the best season of his professional career under him as his first signing.
Erik ten Hag trusted Rashford unconditionally
Rashford had the highest of highs and the lowest of lows under Ten Hag but that is pretty much the story of his career more than an indictment of the manager.
Still, apart from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, there's no other manager who trusted Rashford quite as unconditionally as Ten Hag did during his time.
If fit, he was regularly the first name on the teamsheet, regardless of his form or questions about his work ethic and application.
Even when Ten Hag put his foot down and dropped him for a game, Rashford would immediately be back for the next one, a far cry from how Amorim has treated Rashford.
That unconditional trust plus the vast amount of space attackers enjoy on transition in the Bundesliga could be just the tonic he needs to restart his career.
A six-month loan to increase his transfer value for the summer looks ideal. With Ten Hag/Sahin's sacking at Dortmund, it looks closer than ever.
