Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, met at the Presidential Villa in Abuja amidst differences which have remained unresolved.
Torizone reports that the two leaders are at odds with each other over the control of political structures in Rivers State.
This has led to factions within the People's Democratic Party in the state as well as in the state assembly. The crisis included impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara initiated by the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to Wike.
The meeting, which was attended by top government officials and stakeholders, was reportedly connected to the Ogoni clean-up and the resumption of oil exploration in Ogoniland from four Local Government Areas in Rivers State.
Governor Fubara arrived at the meeting with Senator Lee Maeba, accompanied by a delegation of prominent Ogoni leaders, including Senators Magnus Abe, Olaka Nwogu, Chief Victor Giadom, and Chief Kenneth Kobani. Other notable attendees included Monsignor Pius Kii, Leedom Mitee, and Senators Bennett Birabi Barry, Mpigi, and Joe Poroma.
The meeting was also attended by key government officials, including the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari; Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abba; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris Mohammed; Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh; and the National Security Adviser, NSA, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
