Adaji Samson Adaidu, the uncle of the late Salome Ele Adaidu, has shared how the suspect, Timileyin Ajayi, who killed Salome attempted to kill himself while in police custody.
Speaking during Brekete Family program, a TV program focused on human rights, Adaji said that during a visit to the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) at the State CID in Lafia, Timileyin attempted to harm himself. He said the police, unaware of Timileyin's intentions, allowed him to walk freely and Timileyin ran into the edge of a door in an attempt to kill himself but he only sustained a cut on his head.
Adaji added that the ACP became upset and reprimanded the officer responsible for watching the suspect for not restraining him properly.
In Adaji's words: "We said we should go and see the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of State CID in Lafia. So when we were coming in, the police didn't know his mind, they left him to walk on his own. He ran into the edge of a door and then he had a cut on his head. He was trying to kill himself. So the ACP said this boy wants to kill himself in his office and he was angry at the officer that was supposed to hold the boy"
