Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has voiced significant concerns regarding the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and its methods in addressing corruption. He emphasized that the commission's practice of raiding the homes of innocent individuals during late hours, breaking down doors, and intimidating occupants undermines public support.
According to report, Effiong stated that he can no longer stand as a vocal supporter of the EFCC, contrasting this with his past efforts to defend the agency. He highlighted the detrimental impact of the EFCC's actions on innocent people and stressed the urgent need for accountability within the organization.
Previously an advocate for the EFCC's anti-corruption initiatives, Effiong now sees the commission as problematic due to issues of corruption, partisanship, nepotism, and professionalism. He asserted that the EFCC must transform its strategies to restore public trust.
His words,
"The EFCC cannot raid the homes of innocent people at odd hours, break doors, harass and brutalize the occupants, and still expect public support. They do not offer apologies or compensation when they act unprofessionally."
