Pep Guardiola's decision to sign a new Manchester City contract led to the split from wife Cristina Serra, the UK Mirror reports.
In November 2024, Guardiola put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the Premier League.
And the 53-year-old's decision was the final straw for his wife.
Earlier this week, news broke that Guardiola's 30-year relationship with Cristina had hit the rocks.
The duo of well-respected showbiz reporters who call themselves the Mamarazzis, Lorena Vazquez and Laura Fa, said in a podcast broadcast today that Cristina, who returned to Barcelona in 2019 to focus on her business interests, had surprised those close to the couple by failing to return to Manchester to visit her husband as expected in September following the summer holidays.
It led to their friends fearing the couple's relationship was nearing its end.
Lorena Vazquez and Laura Fa have also suggested that those close to the couple are still hoping they will enjoy a future reconciliation.
They said: "It could be that one day, when Pep leaves football, and if he returns to Barcelona, they could renew their relationship."
